Maiduguri, Feb. 12, 2017 (TNE) The Borno State Government is to establish skills acquisition centres in six Local Government Areas liberated from Boko Haram terrorists, preparatory to the resettlement of indigenes of those areas.
Prof. Babagana Umara, the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement stated this on Sunday in Maiduguri at the graduation ceremony of 18 women trained in tailoring at the Wulari camp of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Umara named the LGAs to comprise Monguno, Gwoza, Bama, Mobbar, Gamboru-Ngala and Biu.
He explained that the aim was to empower the IDPs especially women with different vocational trades to enable them to begin a new life.
Umara said that the centre at the Wulari camp was set up about four months ago with 80 IDPs to undergo training in carpentry, welding, tailoring and wheel alignment, among others,” he said
Umara said that the trainees were given monthly allowances for the duration of the programme in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Japanese Government. (TNE)
