Rangers survive preliminary round of Champions’ League on technical ground

Enugu, Feb.19, 2017 (TNE): Rangers International FC of Enugu on Sunday advanced to the first round of the African Champions’ League following a second-leg goalless draw with JS Saoura FC of Algeria at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Rangers had earlier held the visitors to a 1-1 draw in their home in the first leg of the preliminary round, thus qualifying technically on the away-goal rule.

The home team missed many scoring chances in the match which was watched by my Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Obinna Ogba, and many other dignitaries.

Not even the full 25,000 capacity stadium could spur the home team to victory as the visitors fought spiritedly to upturn the table. (TNE)
