Kogi Govt to clear N1.3 bn arrears to 9,000 pensioners

Lokoja, March 12, 2017 (TNE): Relief has finally come the way of at least 9,000 pensioners in Kogi as the state government has approved immediate payment of N1.388 billion to them.

The money is to cover the arrears being owed them from January, 2016 to February, 2017 according to a statement issued in Lokoja on Sunday.

The statement signed by Kingsley Fanwo , director general , media and publicity to the governor, said that the decision to offset the arrears was taken at the last state executive council meeting presided over by Gov. Yahaya Bello.

According to him, only pensioners that scale through the just-concluded staff screening and verification exercise will be paid.

He said that payment to the affected pensioners would commence immediately.

Bello praised the pensioners for bearing  with the state government while the staff screening and verification exercise lasted, and promised to continue to pay adequate attention to their welfare. (TNE)
