Kogi receives N5m sports equipment from Lottery Trust Fund

Lokoja, March 14, 2017 (TNE): The Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, Alhaji Habu Gumel on Tuesday in Lokoja donated sports equipment worth N5 million to 57 public primary schools in Kogi.

While handing over the equipment to the state government, Gumel said that the donation was being done in line with the law establishing the fund.

According to him, the law empowers the fund to spend part of the proceeds generated from lottery operations for execution of projects that will benefit the larger society.

These include sports promotion and development, education, social services, public welfare and relief, as well as management of natural disasters.
Gumel called on lottery operators and those engaged in promotional lottery to always ensure the obligatory remittance of 20 percent of their proceeds to the fund.
”Government will no longer tolerate sharp practices that undermine the growth and development of lottery operation in the country,” he said.

The Commissioner for Education, Mr Sunday Tolorunleke who received the equipment on behalf of the government, noted that the gesture would help in development of grassroots sports. (TNE)
