Maiduguri, March 21, 2017(TNE): The Borno State University is to take off this year with 2,500 students in five faculties, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Malam Ahmad Jaha announced in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
Ahmad told newsmen that the faculties are the Art, Science, Education, Social Sciences and Management Science, while a Vice Chancellor would soon be appointed.
“We are hoping that the university will begin academic activities with at least 2,500 or 2,000 students before the end of the year.
“Since we got approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) last year, we have embarked on a process of building a solid foundation for the take-off of the institution.
”Our target is to set up a world class university that can stand the test of time, that is why we are following due process in our actions.
“Actually we are making consultations in collaboration with the technical committee for the setting up of the university to make sure we get the most qualified person as the Vice Chancellor.
“We have a male and a female hostels that can accommodate up to 500 students on campus, while 2,000 students will be off-campus,,” Jaha said.
According to the commissioner, it will be the first state university that will be taking off on a permanent site. (TNE)
