Life imprisonment awaits rapists in Yobe

Damaturu, March 22, 2017 (TNE) A rapist in Yobe will spend the rest of his life in prison, without an option of fine, according to a proposed law by the executive.

Alhaji Mustapha Goniri, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, told newsmen on Wednesday in Damaturu, that the bill which has been forwarded  to the legislature, reviewed the existing law from 14 years for convicts.

He said government  had received series of complaints from parents, guardians, faith-based and Non-Governmental Organisations as well as victims of the havocs being wreaked on daily basis by these perverted beings.

Some NGOs intervieed welcomed the development and  and commended the government for the initiative.

Hajiya Fatima Usman, a mother of four, said  that: “I can’t wait to see this bill passed into law and for it coming into effect as soon as possible.”

Mrs Kaltume Baba, a woman activist, commended the state government for introducing the bill.

Baba noted that rapists would flee once the law comes into effect. (TNE)
