Maiduguri, March 22, 2017(TNE):Three suspected suicide bombers on Wednesday launched a coordinated attack on an unauthorised camp of Internally Displaced Persons in Maiduguri, killing four of them, and also perishing in the onslaught.
”’All together, seven persons were killed including three suspected suicide bombers and four innocent Nigerians,” Borno Commissioner of Police Damian Chukwu told newsmen
He said that the first attack took place in an IDP camp called Gulumba sheltering mainly displaced persons from Gulumba community in Bama Local Government Area of the state.
”The attack happened around 4.30 am on Wednesday around Muna area of the metropolis.
”The suicide bomber sneaked in and detonated his explosives, killing himself, a woman and a kid, while nine others were injured”.
”The second attack took place in a place called Mina Dagalti in the same environment where unauthorised IDPs are staying.
”The suicide bomber detonated his explosives inside the tent, killing himself and one other person; six others were injured.
”The third attack was at a place called Muna Baya where the suspected suicide bomber met some Muslim faithful performing the early morning prayer.
”He ran to them and detonated his explosives killing himself and one other persons, four persons were also injured”.
However, the National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA) said that five suspected suicide bombers were involved in the attacks.
NEMA North East Information Officer Malam Abdulkadir Ibrahim stated this in a statement in Maiduguri.
“Series of bomb blast have occurred in three locations around Muna Garage area of Maiduguri metropolis. The incidents occurred at about 4 am.
“The first location is Muna Kumbori, an unofficial host community camp housing 199 internally Displaced Persons, attacked by three suicide bombers which led the the death of two persons,” Ibrahim said.
He continued: ”The second location is Muna Dagalti which was attacked by one suicide bomber killing one person.
“The third location is Muna Bulaya, attacked by one suicide bomber who was the only casualty.
“A total of five suicide bombers, all male adults, were involved in the incidents killing three persons.
“Twenty people with various degrees of injuries received first-aid treatment by Emergency response team and transported to the state specialist hospital while the remains of the dead have been deposited in the mortuary,” NEMA stated. (TNE)
