Maiduguri, March 23, 2017 (TNE): The Borno State Government on Thursday inaugurated new Caretaker Committees to run the affairs of the 27 Local Government Areas of the state, following the expiration of the six-month tenure of the past committees.
Gov. Kashim Shettima performed the inauguration at a ceremony in Maiduguri.
Shettima explained that the action was in line with the provision of Section 81 of the Borno State LGA laws of 2000, as amended.
“We are gathered here today again to perform a largely ceremonial function regarding the third tiers of government, the swearing-in of new LGA Caretaker Committees,” he said.
Shettima explained that the ceremony was important as it marked a milestone in the administration’s efforts to lay a solid foundation for the development of the state after the massive destruction by the Boko Haram insurgency
He said all caretaker committee chairmen must relocate to their local government area of appointment, threatening to sack those who refused to comply.
Shettima also warned the chairmen against having links with Boko Haram insurgents.
“In the last few months, we have had cases of chairmen, vice chairmen, being arrested for security concerns by the military.
“Let me say that any caretaker chairman who dare to bring shame on this administration will be on his own,” he declared.(TNE)
