SFG reverses self, appeals to Senate to reschedule new date for his appearance

Abuja, March 23, 2017 (TNE): The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal, has changed his earlier stance, and urged the Senate to fix a new date for his appearance before it.

He had earlier informed the Senate he would not be able to appear on Thursday, March 23, because he had taken the matter to court,

The Senate ad hoc Committee on Humanitarian Crisis in North East, had invited Babachir to a public hearing on March 23,  on the alleged misappropriation in the management of the funds for the rehabilitation of the North-East, a project which his office supervised.

At the first invitation in December 2016, he did not attend, resulting in his indictment, and in turn, he decried the action of the committee for not giving him a fair hairing.

However, the committee gave him another chance through a letter dated March 15, asking him to appear on Thursday.

He turned down the invitation, saying that he had taken the case to court.

But, in a twist of events, Babachir wrote another letter, dated March 22, appealing to the committee to give him a new date.

His reason: ”I wish to kindly request that you draw the attention of the members of the committee that I will not be able to appear before it primarily because of  the  pressing engagement of government which clashed with the date and time of the hearing,” he wrote.(TNE)
