Abuja, March 28, 2017 (TNE) : Completion of the N19.4 billion Karshi water project is a top priority owing to its direct impact on the lives of residents, FCT Minister Muhammad Bello has said.
Bello made the remark when he and the FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr Babatope Ajakaiye, paid an unscheduled visit to the project site at Karshi on Monday.
It will be recalled that contract for the project was awarded on July 19, 2013 at N19.4 billion to SCC Nigeria Limited.
According to Bello, the provision of water supply is one of the cardinal principles of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said that the administration would give adequate attention to the project including the dam and the water treatment plant to ensure that the populace starts deriving maximum benefits.
”The Karshi water project including the dam that we are inspecting today and the water treatment plant downstream, in addition to its reticulation into the city, are all very critical projects that must be prioritised for completion.
”I have come together with the relevant agencies and their leadership, including the Permanent Secretary, to see and have a first-hand feel of the project and its challenges, since Karshi is one of the satellite towns of the territory,” he said.
He said that the completion of the water project would go a long way in ameliorating the water problem in Karshi and its environs and therefore, all efforts must be made to complete it.
”This is in line with the government’s policy of trying to complete all ongoing projects, particularly projects that have the widest potential benefit to the greatest number of people,” he said. (TNE)
