Kogi Assembly suspends member for six months

Lokoja, March 28, 2017 (TNE): The Kogi State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended Mr Friday Sani, member representing Igalamela-odolu constituency for six months, for allegedly bringing the house into disrepute.

The suspension followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Mr Abdulahi Bello , member representing Ajaokuta constituency .

In  the motion, Bello explained that Sani had through his recent public utterances and actions, brought the image of the house  into disrepute.Mr Ahmed Mohammed , representing Ankpa 1  constituency, while seconding the motion, said Sani had always treated the house with disregard.

When the motion was put to voice vote,  it was supported by majority of members and the Speaker thereafter  pronounced the suspension.
Sani was immediately escorted out of the chamber by the sergeant-at-arms.
Sani was at various times,  Chief Whip and Majority Leader of the house.
Meanwhile , the Speaker of the house, Mr Umar imam has been served with a court order asking the house to maintain a status quo.
This is sequel to a suit instituted against the leadership and members of the house by the suspended member, Friday Sani.
Joined in the suit are Gov.Alhaji  Yahaya Bello, the Attorney-General, the Minority Leader, Mr Godwin Osiyi and the Kogi State Government.
The speaker after reading the letter, ruled out discussions on the matter, saying that any issues raised are already before the court. (TNE)
