Enugu, Dec. 13, 2017 (TNE) The Police in Enugu had a shootout with a gang of robbers and cultists within Nsukka town on Dec. 9, during which two notorious criminals died, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ebere Amaraizu.

He said police recovered one locally made single-barrel gun with five cartridges from the suspects.

The dead suspects have been identified as Igwebuike Ugwu alias Ntu and Ifeanyi Eya alias Hero. Amaraizu said the two men were members of the Vikings cult that had been terrorising the university town of Nsukka.

“One of the deceased, Ifeanyi Eya, alias Hero, was the Capo of the Viking cult group in the university town of Nsukka.

“It was further gathered that the deceased suspects and their cohorts have been involved in various armed robbery incidents at students’ hostels at Hill-top Area of Nsukka and its environs”.

He said police swooped on the robbery gang after they received a distress call that members of the gang were operating along Agbu Ugwu lane and dispossessing people of their belongings.

Amaraizu said the police are on the trail of other fleeing gang members while the corpses of the suspects have been deposited in the mortuary in Nsukka.
