Medical team begins surgery on conjoined twins

Bauchi, Feb. 13, 2018 (TNE) A team of no fewer than 50 medical doctors sponsored by Speaker Yakubu Dogara, has begun surgery on conjoined twins at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH), in Bauchi.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, the Team Leader, Dr Joseph Kigbu, said that the exercise will include minor and major surgeries, to be performed at no expense to the parents of the babies.

Meanwhile, the indigent parents, from Alkaleri Local Government Area, have commended the sponsor for providing the succour.

Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, the 20-year-old mother, Mrs Ikilima Shuiabu, said that the babies were born more than two months ago in Alkaleri, where they were later referred to ATBU-TH.

“One of the babies is completely formed, while the other one has the lower part of the body, from the waist to legs without the upper part.

“We thank God for today that this medical team came and has commenced surgery to separate them because the other half baby has stopped moving,” she said.
